When Hernán Cortés arrived in what is now Mexico in 1520, he found the people of the great cities of the central valley drinking a luxurious, luscious hot drink they called chicolatl. Today, five hundred years later, hot chocolate is a worldwide favorite. Join us at Ozark Folkways as David Lee Holcomb shows us how to make a shelf-stable powdered hot chocolate mix from ordinary supermarket ingredients. We'll experiment with special flavors and talk about options for vegans and people with special dietary restrictions. (The mixes we'll be making will NOT be vegan, as they include powdered milk.) Workshop fee of $15 includes samples of each flavor mix to take home.
