A native of Cave Springs, Arkansas, Stephanie Smittle (she/her) is a singer and songwriter whose history of engagements includes singing ancient chant in reverberant cathedrals, premiering new classical art songs by living composers for the recital hall, and composing gender-flipped murder ballads in the freak folk tradition. Of her 2026 album "Passiontide," a collection of thirteen songs for voice and electric autoharp, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette wrote: “A remarkable 13-song document of ethereal folk; intimate, pastoral chamber songs; righteous socio-political observations and charming whimsy … Smittle’s powerful voice is clear and buoyant and her original songs possess a mythic, timeless energy, like they sprang from some secret Ozark glade.”
